And while this usually happens within the same world, through a quirk of the gods, or something extremely rare, the soul with memories of another world can cross world lines.
And right now, just such a rare soul is being born into Middle-earth.
It started with a slight feeling of incongruity.
'Waaaah!' The first thing I thought upon being born into this world was, why is my vision so distorted?
Amidst the nothingness, I heard the gentle voice of a woman speaking.
'Lady Maya, it's a healthy baby boy.'
'Ah... at last! He's finally born! Quickly, let me see him!'
Then came the voice of a woman, sounding like a young girl, excitedly chattering.
When I was suddenly lifted into the woman's arms, I felt a 'Huh!?' I was feeling something was wrong.
Was I ever this small?
Once you become aware of one question, other questions arise one after another.
'Ah, those beautiful green eyes are just like Abramo's! But his hair is the black of the noble Ost Empire, like me. Wonderful!'
'His features strongly resemble His Majesty, the King.'
'Yes! That's right, this child will surely become a fine King!'
King? Did these women just say King?
Where exactly was I born?
Me? Where was I born?
What am I saying?
Why is a newborn like me thinking these things?
How can there be so many incomprehensible things popping up?
I stopped my babbling cries, stunned by the various pieces of information surfacing in my head.
This is just like...
'Raymond. Your name is Raymond. You will become the next King of the Centro Kingdom, Raymond.'
... like I've been reborn.
As I understood that, overwhelming information flooded my mind, and I lost consciousness.
◆◆◆◆◆
Time passes quickly, and three months have passed since I was born into this world.
Immediately after birth, my brain short-circuited from the overwhelming information flooding my mind, and I lost consciousness, which caused my mother and the maids who were by my side to worry a lot. But recently, that has calmed down.
And, in the meantime, I learned or remembered a few things.
First, I was originally a pure-blooded Japanese person living in Japan on Earth.
And, although the reason is unclear, I apparently died.
The reason why I know this is that the last scene that I, in my previous life, should I say? Or my past life?
Anyway, the last scene that I remember as a Japanese person is a blinding flash and an impact that I had never felt since I was born. And only the red color of blood flowing from my body.
Judging from this, I was probably hit by a car or something, or I was caught in an explosion.
Thinking any more about this is not good for my mental health, so I decided not to think about it in depth.
Also, I will omit what kind of life I lived in my previous life.
I don't feel like telling people about my uneventful life.
For some unknown reason, I, who led such an uneventful life, seem to have been reborn as royalty in this world.
Not a metaphor, literally, reborn.
I was old enough to be called an uncle by young people, but now I am a plump, fluffy, mochi-skinned baby.
I was desperate at first when my memories came back, wondering what kind of joke this was, but after a few months I gave up.
No, I should say that I was able to process the memories as memories, rather than giving up.
Faced with a gap that was too large to ignore between my previous life and my current self, I understood that I was just a weak child with memories of my previous life.
However, if I think that I am just a child with an immature mind and body who happens to have memories of my previous life, and that I am still me, then it all falls into place.
The information I can know as a child right now is limited, but to summarize what I have learned, this world is very peaceful, with five major powers and ninety-nine minor powers.
And the order of the world is maintained by the five major powers.
Surprisingly, the five countries do not maintain order by confronting each other, but by cooperating with each other.
In other words, there is no war.
As far as I know, there are no skirmishes or conflicts in this world.
To put it more simply, no war has ever broken out since the country was founded.
One of the reasons for this is the existence of monsters in this world.
In a world where monsters with more power than humans roam, there is no time for humans to fight each other, and the cooperative system from that era continues to this day, even though they have finally developed a way to counter them.
Of the five countries, the Centro Kingdom is located in the center of the continent.
The eastern country is the Ost Empire, the west is the Okkydens Kingdom, the south is the Notos United Kingdom, and the north is the Svyevil Kingdom.
They are called Naka-tsu-kuni, Higashi-no-kuni, Nishi-no-kuni, Minami-no-kuni, and Kita-no-kuni, respectively.
That's about all I've learned in these three months.
The reason for this is that the only people I have been able to meet in the past three months are my mother, Maya-san, the maid Maria-san, who is my mother's attendant, and my father, Abramo-san, who is the king of this country.
Honestly, I do see other servants from time to time, but they don't come near me.
Well, the reason for that is my current mother...
Anyway, the reason why I have been able to gather so much information despite the small number of people around me is thanks to Maria-san.
